Region 6 North

Contest Information

Contest Name: Region 6 North
Contest Location: Adrian, MI
Description: Region 6 North: Where Champions Are Born. Sandhill Soaring Club and Adrian Soaring Club have teamed up with the SSA to host the 2018 U.S. Juniors Contest and Development Camp and concurrent Region 6 North Sports and Club Class contests at Lenawee County Airport (KADG), in Adrian, Michigan. R6N will be augmented by a camp that includes a morning lecture series and flight trace analysis sessions. R6N has been designed to be both a Rookie Camp for non-juniors and a warm-up to Nationals and an opportunity for former U.S. Junior Team members, experienced Sports and Club Class pilots and the young-at-heart to mix with and coach new racing pilots a setting we think will enhance the overall experience for all. To put it simply, if you're new to racing, this is the place for you. And, even if this isn't your first sailplane rodeo, you're welcome to join us too. Take a pilot who's new to sailplane racing, coach and encourage them through the process... share your passion for racing... and help grow the sport. Region 6 and nearby Region 7 Chicagoland and Ontario based pilots come join the fun. Visit and compete against your neighbors. The host organization will have communal dining set-up for everyone in the large hangar. Dinner tickets will be available for purchase when you arrive and the menu will be second to none (yes, we know that's a tall order). There's on-site space for RV Camping and the host organization has reserved a block of rooms with negotiated room rates starting at a very reasonable 71/night + tax at a recently remodeled Super8 Hotel (yes, the beds are comfortable), located 1 mile from the airport. The Super8 is adjacent to a Holiday Inn Express where rooms have been reserved too starting at 99/night +tax. Adrian is a quaint, rural college-town nestled among farms for as far as the eye can see... just 30 minutes from I-75 (US-23) and I-80. It once set the standard for modern National sailplane racing competitions. Join us as we revive a contest site that once held several National Championships (65, 74, and 79) and was once home to National Champions: Richard Schreder, A.J. Smith, Rudy Mozer, Eric Mozer, and Ken Sorenson. The Contest Director is Tony Condon. From Beginner to Advanced... R6N offers friendly terrain, great comradery, international competition, and great food and entertainment. Entry fee includes one (1) non-refundable tow. Contest Tows are 50 each. Aeroretrieve is 100/tach hour. For more info, see: www.r6n.org. Note to Juniors: register at the 2018 U.S. Juniors Contest registration page (not here).
